On a Side Note: What to do with that lone earring you are still holding onto

{here}

Just stumbled across this fabulous idea for a new necklace.  Unfortunately (or fortunately, I’m not sure which) I don’t lose my earrings so I’m off to track down some lost earrings that can be used instead.

My New Green Jacket

I found this jacket on my San Diego trip.  Isn’t it the best color green ever?!  Not only am I making a rare appearance in my new Steve Madden ankle boots (without socks even – brrr) I also managed to paint my nails.  And there you have it.

English Teacher Style

The other day I had to run a few errands.  And what is better than hanging out at Staples?  Dressing up to hang out at Staples, that’s what.  So I grabbed these green Esprit pants/culottes/?? that have gone unworn since I picked them up at the Bins a few months ago.  Mike was still asleep when I left so I didn’t get his opinion (good thing).

Of course, Holly loved them.  She likes anything unusual.

But when I met up with Mike for dinner that night and bravely asked him what he thought (just to see if I know him as well as I think I do) he stared at me for a few seconds too long and offered this up, “That sweater looks great on you.”  Yup.

Later in the evening Mike confessed that he had a high-school English teacher (of all things) who basically wore the same outfit.  Hey, I had the same English teacher (ten years later and in a different town of course – do they all dress the same?).  Mike’s young high-school disappointment with his English teacher’s wardrobe was that her shapeless skirts left nothing to the imagination.  In fact, just flat-out turned the imagination off.  Oh.  We can’t have that around here, now can we?

These culottes are heading over to my sister’s house were hopefully they like the English teacher look.

This is How I Do It: Shopping on a Budget

I love a good find as much as the next person.  I love taking something that someone no longer wants and giving it purpose again.  And I love doing it for next-to-nothing.

Which is why I do most of my wardrobe shopping at the Goodwill Outlet aka The Bins.

It’s taken a bit of getting used to.  You never know what you’ll find. Broken mugs, mysterious smells, dirty socks. I wear gloves, the girls aren’t allowed to touch anything and you have to get into a zone to look through all that mess.

But I’ve also found all of my favorite jeans, unique shoes, a few vintage purses and brand name tops here.  As I scroll through my blog and look at photos, nearly every item I have on was found at the Bins.

You can’t beat $0.89/lb.

Cart full of awesome things = $30

As my brother-in-law likes to point out, “When it comes to fashion, you either have money or you have time.”

He Said, She Said: Debra Rapoport

It’s worth trying anything on because you never know until you try it on. – Debra Rapoport

You already know I hate taking the time to try things on.  But, guess what?!  It’s changing.  Last week, I took so many things into the dressing room.  And while I didn’t buy any of those things (sorry, sales peeps) I did see a lot that worked and that I liked and I realized I’m starting to get something down.  Not sure what.  But something is starting to make a little bit more sense.

My favorite line Debra says at the thrift store?  When she puts back the glitzy top saying, “It’s too real.  It’s not fun enough.”  True words to live by.

One of my favorite blogs has got to be Advanced Style.  In nearly all matters, those that have lived longer then me have wisdom worth listening to.  And in matters of style, the same goes.
