Dear Diary: Let’s Get On With it Already
I had a conversation with a friend about this blog of mine. Her exasperated response? “Get on with it already”. What? Ow. I left her that day not exactly sure what she meant but the seed had been planted.
A few days later, I got it.
I’ve been talk, talk, talking about learning about style. But I haven’t moved past the talk. At least online. Offline, I’ve been buying things, trying new looks, experimenting. But I haven’t been brave enough to publish it. You know why? I’ve got the most ridiculous picture in my mind of what “cool” is, and it’s not what I’m doing right now. I’m one of those peeps who doesn’t feel “cool” until I’m the expert on the matter. Oh brother! Whatever. Learning is fun. Taking chances grows you. Get uncomfortable in order to be comfortable. All that good stuff.
So, shall we “get on with it already”?
What am I doing differently here than I ever have before? Accessorizing, my friends! I’ve got the scarf, the earrings, the bracelets (no Arm Party yet but that will come, trust me) and I’ve got the fun little shoes.
I realize that most of the world seems to get the whole accessories thing, but I never have! Scarves get in the way of my cooking, earrings have to be organized, shoes take up too much space, blah-blah-blah. But I’ve changed and I’ve officially been revolutionized by the power of what a scarf can do to an outfit. And the best part? Scarves fit perfectly into my teeny-tiny budget.
Here’s what I have so far. The scarves are pretty simple and neutral – that’s because I’m easing myself into the whole idea.
Many thanks to Ross and Forever 21 – places where I can happily shop my budget-crazy self! Soon, I’ll branch out into color – any suggestions?
